I'm vegetarian and grow a lot of my food so it's organic. And I try to eat food raw, because that is when it still contains all the enzymes that you need to digest it.
I exercise when I can but not as often as I'd like. But I do like to be active - snow boarding, riding bikes, exploring, swimming and scuba diving. I even like jumping on trampolines.
I use non-toxic beauty products and mineral-based make-up and I don't take chemical drugs - I follow homoeopathic practices. I go for acupuncture when I can. Actually, I really wish I lived in China so I could get reflexology done every day!
You turned vegetarian at 11 after an encounter with a baby calf destined to become veal. How hard was it giving up meat at that age?
Much as I liked the taste of meat, I could not force myself to gnaw on the flesh of another creature any more. It was too visceral.
But I didn't switch to a healthy or balanced diet. My parents never made sure of it because they wanted me to 'grow out of it'. So I ate a lot of junk food, potato chips and candy bars. For a kid, that's kind of heavenly too.
I bet if I had eaten a well-balanced diet, I would have thick hair and big rosy cheeks, but I guess it all worked out.
What do you make of fad diets?
I'm a non-believer. We are animals and our digestive system is designed to digest. As long as you eat organic food and real food that's not processed, you're fine. Everyone should try and do that even just once a week. It's great for your health, and the environment too.
I do flush my system with olive oil (natural healers use it to cleanse the liver and gall bladder) every now and then, though. It's so healthy and all the yucky stuff just goes away. I've flushed a lot of gallstones out that way. I've been doing it for about two years.
Olive oil - fair enough, but you've been seen chugging on biofuel that powers your car. What's that about and how good does it taste?
I've done it a bunch of times to illustrate that it's not toxic. It's, put in a literal way, the difference between biofuel and petroleum - petrol does not digest and biofuel does. Biofuel has a toxicity level somewhere between maple sugar and table salt.
What it tastes like depends on which kind you drink and I have had a few. The avocado oil one tastes quite good. Biofuel made from recycled grease, however, does taste kind of gross.
You have a pretty hectic lifestyle as spokesman for the earth. How do you get peace of mind?
I had a friend who went for a high-school reunion, and half of his old classmates looked really old and the other half really good. Basically, the old-looking half had stopped being interested in life and were just frozen into day-to-day routines. The other half were still engaged with life. So that's something I try and do.
I spend a lot of time with my animals, loving them and getting loved by them. I have two dogs, two cats, four horses - all rescues. I have chickens, and there are tree frogs and birds who just wander into the house in the spring.
I have no children, but I do have 33 nieces and nephews and I love the interaction with them. I also love playing music - guitar and piano.
And I love being close to nature. Sometimes I just have to stop and listen to it, and I am content.
What would your last meal be?
It would definitely have to be Mexican. There's this one Mexican food stall in Northern California that I love.
A farmer runs that place, and he hand-makes everything to order and has some amazing recipes. What would I have? Tamales, guacamole, everything!
