Think you know Singapore well? Have a good sense of humour? Love The Amazing Race?
If you've said yes to all the above, then the Pan Pacific Singapore City Chase may just be for you.
Touted as the world's largest "urban adventure" race, the City Chase is coming to Singapore - and Asia - for the first time ever.
How to run the race
Founded in 2004 in Vancouver, Canada, the City Chase is a part obstacle course, part scavenger hunt that requires participants to race around in search of ChasePoints, scattered in unknown locations throughout the city.
Teams of 2 will be given a set of clues detailing a variety of physical, intellectual and humourous challenges which will test Mind, Body and Spirit. Organisers have also let on that competitors can expect a scavenger hunt, tree climbing, bike riding or even abseiling. "Cultural" activities are also planned for the Singapore leg, to give it that "Uniquely Singapore" multicultural experience.
How to win Being fit and in shape is not the only requirement in this mental as well as physical challenge . Each duo has to exhibit teamwork, resourcefulness, determination, and an ability to make decisions on the fly. The most physically demanding task will be travelling between ChasePoints. Teams are free to chart their own course and navigate their way around the city either by running, walking or using public transport. The use of taxis and cars are disallowed. Competitors can also call friends and family for help, access the Internet and even depend on the kindness of strangers to get them through the race.
Each team only needs to complete a certain number of the ChasePoints, and the first team to complete the required ChasePoints and cross the finish line wins. Organisers expect up to 300 teams, and the race to last from 4 to 6 hours.
The winners will get to represent Singapore at the World Championship from Sept 27 to 30, in Rome, where they will compete against other winners from Sydney, Lisbon, Paris, Madrid, London, Hong Kong, Chicago and Canada. Singapore is the 5th leg of the 2007 City Chase, which goes around the world through cities in Australia, Portugal, France, Spain, Singapore, England, USA & Canada this year.
Several local celebrities will also be participating in the race, on Saturday, 14th July. These include a Miss Singapore Universe team, local radio DJs Angel Teo, Glenn Ong and Rod Monterio, and a Singapore Idol team comprising former Idol finalists Emilee Kang and Paul Twohill.
