Pill-popping for pleasure

By: Mavis Toh

He is young, toned and tanned, the picture of health.

But the 29-year-old, who wants to be known only as Cheong, pops Viagra each time he has sex.

The electrician insisted that he is not hooked on the oral medication for erectile dysfunction, but said he will refrain from having sex if he does not have a pill with him.

'I can do without it but the pill makes sex so much more pleasurable,' said the bachelor.

He was introduced to Viagra four years ago by a friend who uses it regularly. He liked the result.

Even his then girlfriend was impressed. Now, without the pill, sex seems 'duller'.

He gets his supply from a friend who visits Thailand regularly. Each of these pills costs about $4, up to five times less than the price for a prescription pill here.

Asked if he worries about any long-term ill effects of the pills on him, he said: 'I've taken it so many times and nothing happened to me, so I think it's okay.'

He also consulted a general practitioner who said that the pills should be safe as long as they are not fakes and if he does not 'overdose'.

However, his current girlfriend was worried when she found out he takes the sex drug. 'She said I should do it on my own.'

But he said he was not addicted and likened it to taking Panadol.
