Dengue has claimed the seventh victim in Singapore.

A 53-year-old Chinese woman from Bedok Reservoir Road, who came down with fever, bodyache, lethargy and rash on Sept 2, died five days later at the Changi General Hospital.

She was treated for viral fever at a company clinic on Sept 3 and at a polyclinic the next day.

On Sept 6, she was admitted to Changi General Hospital for weakness and chest pain. Blood tests confirmed that she was infected with dengue.

Her condition deteriorated very rapidly the next day and she died on Sept 7 of dengue shock syndrome, said a statement from the Ministry of Health today.

The latest death comes a week after an 84-year-old Eurasian man died from dengue on Aug 30. along Streets 31, 32 and 34 contracting the disease.

The Health Ministry advises the public to seek medical attention immediately if they feel unwell and have a fever.

If they are diagnosed to have dengue, they should follow the doctor's advise and ensure they have adequate rest and drink enough water to prevent dehydration.
