Flu vaccine for 1,000 needy residents
Mon, Sep 24, 2007
The Straits Times

ONE thousand needy residents in Marsiling and Woodlands will receive influenza vaccines under the 'Fight Flu!' project, the North West Community Development Council (CDC) said on Monday.

The project, spearheaded by the North West CDC and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society aims to 'actively partner community and corporate organisations in connecting with the community and to reach out to the needy', said Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District.

The residents, identified through the North West ComCare Local Network (CLN), will be receiving the Fluarix NH 200 vaccines this month. The vaccines were donated by GlaxoSmithKline.

Marsiling Grassroots Organisations (GROs) and Woodlands GROs will be working with Sunlove Neighbourhood Link and the Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association (SATA) to administer the vaccines during the month-long exercise.

Calling for more strategic partnerships, Dr Teo added that other corporate organisations could come forward to 'contribute resources so that no needy resident would fall out of the referral loop'.

The North West CLN, which was launched on Jan 20 is a community platform that brings together the North West CDC, GRO and other community-based organisations to assist needy families more effectively and efficiently.

The Marsiling division will be conducting their vaccine exercise on Sept 25 at Sunlove Neighbourhood Link at 10am.
