A 35-YEAR-OLD Singapore executive will brave the Sahara heat and run across the desert's rocky plains in the name of charity come March 27.
Mr Adrian Baber, a sales director at World Fuel Services Singapore, is scheduled to take part in the six-day 243km Marathon des Sables in Morocco which is touted as one of the toughest races in the world
A running enthusiast and touch rugby player, Mr Baber is hoping to raise funds for the Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF).'Running is my hobby so I decided to use this to do my bit to help others,' he said.
'Both my parents have been diagnosed with cancer and managed to beat it but not everyone is as fortunate.'
He added: 'I hope that children who suffer from cancer will be able to seek the treatment they need (regardless of) their financial background.'
Set up in 1992, the CCF is an independent organisation which is solely funded by public and corporate donations.
It has since helped improve the lives of about 1,400 children suffering from cancer by offering emotional, social and financial assistance.
Mr Baber aims to raise at least $100,000 for the CCF and so far he has raised $23,000 through word of mouth.
Members of the public can donate to the cause by sending a cheque to Children's Cancer Foundation, Orchard, P.O. Box No. 0157, Singapore 912306.
Cheques should be made payable to 'Children's Cancer Foundation' and at the back of the cheque it should indicate 'Mr Adrian Baber' and the sender's contact details.
