SINGAPORE'S Health Promotion Board (HPB) will be launching a year-long initiative to promote mental wellness through relationship building.

Kicking off on Friday, it aims to educate the public on the importance of strong social support and its impact on personal mental wellness.

Called Mind Your Relationships, the programme hopes to build awareness on how positive relationships affect an individual's mental well-being. It also highlights the benefits of paying attention to and taking care of your personal relationships.

One main highlight of this programme will be a large-scale outdoor movie event that will be held to mark World Mental Health Day in October.

Singaporeans from all walks of life will be invited to enjoy an evening with their family and friends at a popular Singaporean pastime - movie watching.

Commenting on the initiative, HPB's Chief Executive Officer Mr Lam Pin Woon said: 'Our aim in launching Mind Your Relationships is to encourage Singaporeans to focus on relationships on all fronts so that they create a positive social network for daily living.'

Mind Your Relationships will be launched at the screening of Homeless FC, a film offering at the Singapore International Film Festival on Friday.

Going forward, HPB will also be organising a series of activities and events, such as talks and workshops at workplaces and community venues to reinforce the message that building positive relationships is important.
