IT IS not often that Najihah Sani, 7, gets to stick her tongue out at her Primary One form teacher, Madam Zuleha.

Najihah and her schoolmates go through the checks every day when they arrive at Greenridge Primary School.

Form teachers of Primary One and Two students are being particularly vigilant in searching for Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD).

Many of the cases this time round have been caused by a deadlier strain of the virus, called EV71. Younger children are the most susceptible.

There were 702 cases of HFMD last week, bringing the total this year to 4,423.
