I HAD been having giddy spells and I went to Toa Payoh Polyclinic recently to see a doctor, as I thought it would be cheaper if I needed a blood test or other screening services.
I spent nearly three hours there and when I asked the doctor for a medical certificate (MC), he smilingly commented that polyclinics are a good source of getting MCs.
Feeling that I was wronged, I told the doctor that it was not why I went to a polyclinic.
While I know of people who go to polyclinics to get "cheap MCs" to be excused from school or work, I am not such a person.
Why would I go for a blood test if I had just wanted an MC? I could have used an easier excuse, such as a headache, if I was after an MC.
Doctors should be professional enough not to make such assumptions as it is totally unfair to those who see them for genuine health concerns.
How would they be able to give an accurate diagnosis if they assume from the beginning that the patient is there for an MC?
