Four tips for keeping mentally healthy

my paper

I REFER to the report, "S'poreans' dangerous attitude towards health" (my paper, Oct 10).

Nowadays, people work in a dynamic, highly competitive environment under great pressure.

This fact is highlighted when the economy is doing badly, and businesses and consumers are affected by inflation.

Working adults must cope with increasing workloads due to manpower cuts or, worse, losing their jobs. They also have to shoulder the burden of supporting their families.

Students also face considerable pressure in school.

With all these challenges, people need to learn how to relax.

Here are a few useful tips for maintaining mental health:

1) Keep your mind clear and your mood calm and balanced, so that when faced with unpredictable or unfavourable circumstances, you would know that you made the best decision.

With this in mind, we can rest easy with a clear conscience and let nature take its course.

2) Should anything at work or at home be getting you down, talk about it with someone close. This can help you relieve stress.

3) Stay physically and mentally in shape by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as exercise can help relieve tension.

4) If you feel you are slipping into depression or are suffering from anxiety, seek medical advice.
