Stories to chase away blushes

IT'S Sex And The City (SATC) - Singapore style. Well, sort of. Seven stories by Singaporeans have been collated for a book published by global condom manufacturer Durex to commemorate World Aids Day next Monday.

Just as SATC's Carrie Bradshaw relates the sexual exploits of her friends in a witty and educational style, Confessions: The Most Embarrassing Sex Stories hopes to discuss safe sex in a fun and accessible way.

Britain-based Durex commissioned a team at Ogilvy Red-Card to produce the inaugural book, which is targeted at readers aged 18 and above.

Respondents, mostly in their early 20s to late 30s, then replied to chain mails sent by Ogilvy asking for accounts of their sexual experiences.

After conducting one-to-one interviews with the volunteers who came forward, seven stories were picked.

In one story, a man called MC has a one-night stand with a woman. He blabbed to her about his new boss whom his colleagues have described as a "miserable old dragon".

He turns up for his first day of work the next day, only to find out that she is his new boss.

In another story, a frisky couple talk dirty in a hotel room until someone in the next room tells them to get it over and done with so that everybody can get some sleep.

Ms Christy Soh, country manager of SSL Healthcare, which distributes Durex products here, said Durex came up with the book as it "wanted to take a more light-hearted yet still educational approach".

She hopes the book will give an "insight into the psyche of Singaporeans" and "drive home the importance of protected sex".

A total of 3,000 copies of the 16-page book were printed. They will be given out free with a condom to the public by Durex ambassadors dressed in white Durex tanktops in Orchard Road tomorrow, from 4pm to 6pm, and at Clarke Quay from 9pm to 11pm.
