Hope for those with knee woes
Thu, Dec 18, 2008
my paper
>A TEAM of National University Hospital researchers, led by Professor Lee Eng Hin, is carrying out clinical trials on patients with damaged knees.

This involves growing new knee cartilage from stem cells taken from the patients' bone marrow. In a recent breakthrough, researchers from A*Star and NUS were able to develop an unlimited number of pure insulin-producing cells from mouse-embryo stem cells.

This discovery may pave the way towards treating diabetes in humans using stem cells. Diabetes is a condition where a person's body fails to produce or properly use insulin.
