New Straits Times

The day after she was born, her parents found out that she suffered from a heart condition and needed to undergo surgery at the Gleneagles Medical Centre here.

The cost of the surgery is estimated to be between RM30,000 (S$12,498) and RM35,000, but her parents, who are from Bukit Mertajam near here, are only able to come up with RM5,000.

Her father, Yu Chang Ching, 21, is a production operator in a factory who earns RM1,200 a month while her mother, Tan Kar Yee, 20, is a housewife.

The parents of 2-month-old Ha Wei Song are also facing a similar problem.

Wei Song underwent an operation in the same hospital recently.

His father, Ha Kee Yoon, 39, who washes cars, takes home about RM700 a month while his mother, Lim Geik Hiang, 33, a teacher in Selama, Perak, earns RM1,800 a month.

The estimated cost of surgery and post-operative care is estimated to be RM45,000, and his parents can only afford RM3,000.
