>KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: One in four Malaysians will suffer from cancer in their lifetime. It will increase to one in three if the trend continues, said Kuala Lumpur Hospital director Datuk Dr Zaininah Mohd Zain.

Launching a cancer awareness campaign at the hospital here yesterday, she said while cancer is one of the 10 leading causes of death in Malaysia, patients should never give up.

"I urge all to come in for check-ups and screenings as we have all the facilities and the experts at the hospital."

Dr Ravindran Jegasothy, head and senior consultant of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, said many women had not undergone pap smear tests although early diagnosis ensured recovery and no loss of the uterus.
Campaign manager Dr Zabedah Othman said the stress was on early detection.
