No need to pay if there are no co-payments

WE THANK Mr Darren Chong for his letter, 'Pensioners' polyclinic visits should be hassle- free' (my paper, April 1), and apologise for the inconvenience caused when his father visited Clementi polyclinic.

Civil Service Card (CSC) holders enjoy medical benefits at National Healthcare Group polyclinics. At the end of every visit, the validity of the CSC is verified via an online system.

If the card is valid and no 'non-standard' items which require co-payment have been consumed, the cardholder may check out without having to pay.

If the card is invalid, payment of all consumed items will be required.

Occasionally, when the system is out of order and verification cannot be performed, we would request the cardholder to make payment first and, subsequently, make a claim.

We have taken note of Mr Chong's feedback and reviewed this downtime procedure.

Moving forward, in a situation where the verification system is out of order and there is no co-payment required for that visit, we will not collect payment from CSC holders.

However, a bill will be sent to the cardholder if the card is rejected during retrospective verification.

Once again, we thank Mr Chong for his feedback and wish him and his father the best of health.

Mr Tan Lai Hong
Deputy director (Operations)
National Healthcare Group Polyclinics
