Privileges help blood donors keep on giving
Mon, Apr 13, 2009
my paper

I REFER to the report, "More blood donors needed" (my paper, April 7), and the letter, "Create incentives to draw more blood donors", by Mr Ishwar Mahtani (my paper, April 9).

The withdrawal of medical privileges was a mistake.

Blood donors need to stay healthy and giving privileges to regular donors would assure them that they have sufficient resources to maintain their health.

The authorities should review the medical-privilege policy and reinstate it.

I am sure there will be a rise in the number of donors as those who have been holding back because of the lack of medical privileges will now come forward.

Perhaps the authorities could conduct a survey of donors concerning this issue and justify a decision to grant medical privileges to donors.
