Over 90% get full subsidy
Mon, Apr 13, 2009
The Straits Times

MORE than 90 per cent of patients are unaffected by means-testing and they continue to get the full Government subsidy.

The average hospital bill sizes for Class B2 and C patients have remained relatively stable at about $1,500, well within the Medisave withdrawal limits, said Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan on Monday.

Responding to a question from Sembawang GRC MP, Dr Lim Wee Kiak, Mr Khaw said the purpose of means-testing in public hospitals, in place since Jan 1, is to enable lower income patients to enjoy more subsidies than higher-income patients.
