THE 22-year-old Singaporean went ahead with her trip to visit her cousin in Vermont, a state near New York, even though she knew the Influenza A (H1N1) virus was spreading in the United States.

It was her first visit to the US, and she was 'too far in' on the planning to give it up. On Saturday evening, a day after she returned home from her 16-day holiday, the student tested positive for the virus, becoming Singapore's fifth patient.

'I guess you can call this a rude awakening,' she said.

Flu victim cleared to leave CDC

By Jessica Jaganathan

AFTER clearing two tests for the Influenza A (H1N1) virus, 43-year-old Ana (not her real name) was all dressed up to leave the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) on Saturday.

The Singapore permanent resident, who is originally from the Philippines, was discharged yesterday afternoon after staying at the ward since Wednesday.
