Great Eastern Women 10km Run to raise cancer awareness
THIS year's Great Eastern Women 10km Run, which will be held on Nov 1, will continue its drive to raise awareness of cancer.
Yesterday, Great Eastern presented two cheques of $50,000 each to the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) and Cervical Cancer Prevention Fund - the sum raised by the Women Against Cancer charity initiative at last year's run.
Witnessing the ceremony was Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance and Transport. She was one of 10 supporting women Members of Parliament at last year's 10km Run.
Said Mr Terence Khoo, managing director of race organiser Enterprise Sports Group: "The run has grown to be an event that is not only about the runners, spectators and sponsors, but which also stands for a cause.
"Women Against Cancer is a great opportunity for all of us to give back to society."
BCF general manager Christine Ang said that the funds raised will be used to launch an education programme targeted at secondary to tertiary female students.
For this year's run, organisers are looking to raise participation numbers from last year's 10,000 to 15,000. Race information will be available on June 29.
