JOHOR BARU, Malaysia: For more than two weeks, a Quran teacher had to endure excruciating pain in her abdomen after treatment for a slipped disc at a private hospital.
Nora'ini Harun, 47, has lodged a police report claiming that the hospital staff were negligent and caused her abdomen to become scalded due to a botched post-surgery procedure.
She was admitted to the hospital on May 14 due to pain caused by an injury in a road accident 10 years ago.
Her troubles began when doctors gave her an injection to treat the pain on the right side of her lower back and right thigh five days later.
Following this, a "radiant warmer" was placed above her abdomen to stabilise her temperature and ease blood flow.
Nora'ini claimed that she started feeling pain in her abdomen few minutes after that and her condition worsened after that.
"My abdomen was red and swollen. There were boils."
Doctors treated her with cream but Nora'ini was still in pain.
After subsequent checks, the hospital issued a letter to Nora'ini and admitted their mistake, discharging her on May 30.
After undergoing three follow-up treatments, Nora'ini lodged a police report claiming negligence by the hospital.
A spokesman said they took full responsibility for the incident and had agreed to pay for her treatment.
"We have also taken action against the staff involved.
"We had asked her to return every other day for follow-up treatment, to allow her skin to heal.
"The doctors felt she was at risk of infection if she stayed longer in the hospital." -NST
