FINANCIALLY needy students with eye problems, such as short-sightedness, can get free spectacles from the Student Eye Care Fund set up by spectacle retailer Nation Optical and the Health Promotion Board (HPB) on Monday.

Worth $1.8 million, the fund will make 10,000 pairs of spectacles available to needy primary and secondary school students over the next three years.

After vision screening provided by the HPB's School Health Service, poor students identified by their schools will receive vouchers for their free spectacles should their eyesight need to be corrected.
