Man wins car for washing hands well

HE SPENT just five minutes at a roadshow in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) yesterday learning how to wash his hands properly, and won a Subaru Impreza worth $53,000.

Mr Vincent Tan, 40, a systems manager, won the top prize in a lucky draw held as part of the Clean, Safe and Infection-free campaign organised by TTSH.

"I took part in the roadshow as it seemed fun. I didn't think I'd win," he said.

Under the four-month campaign which ended yesterday, roadshows on the seven-step handwashing technique were held every weekday at Bugis Junction, Raffles City and United Square, and TTSH.

Hospital staff gave the 7,860 people spotted washing their hands properly a lucky-draw coupon each.

Handwashing is the most effective way of reducing the spread of infection, with up to 80 per cent of infections spread through hand contact, said the hospital.
