TO help people determine whether they are experiencing symptoms of urinary leaks, the US National Association for Continence (NAFC) came up with a list of self-assessment questions. If "yes" is your answer to one or more of these questions, you may want to discuss your symptoms with a doctor.
1. Do you experience urinary leaks during physical activity such as lifting heavy objects, exercising, or changing positions (sitting to standing, lying to sitting, etc)?
2. Do you experience urinary leaks while sneezing, coughing, or laughing?
3. Has your sleep regularly been interrupted two or more times in the night by trips to the bathroom?
4. Do you frequently experience strong or sudden urges to urinate and not make it to the bathroom in time?
5. Do you normally need to urinate eight or more times a day?
The complete assessment tool can be found at the NAFC website (www.nafc.org) under the Diagnosis Quiz link. However, this tool is purely informational and is not intended to replace medical advice from doctors. For more information about urinary leaks, you can call the Poise Up! campaign hotline at 1-800-82-1188 Mondays to Thursdays from 9am to 3pm. -The Star/ANN
