Generally, coughing can be due to various reasons such as the common cold, asthma, bronchitis and heartburn or environmental pollutants such as cigarette smoke.

Coughing is usually an indication of a respiratory infection or irritation of the throat, lungs or air passages and it can be wet (productive) or dry (non-productive).

Adhatoda, albizzia, marshmallow and ribwort are some herbal remedies which are commonly used to ease asthma and common cold problems. Adhatoda and albizzia have anti-allergic and expectorant properties which are beneficial in the expulsion of excessive mucus or phlegm from the respiratory tract, as well as in opening the air passageway.

It relieves coughing and breathlessness. On the other hand, marshmallow and ribwort promote the coughing up of phlegm, aid in respiratory congestion and soothe the mucous membranes. I

ncrease intake of foods high in Vitamin C to treat coughs and colds as well as boost the immune system to ward off infections and diseases.

Give more fluids to your son. The fluids help thin the mucus, making it easier to cough up and can also soothe a throat that is tickly from coughing.
