Q: I am four months pregnant and my appetite has been increasing, causing me to gain weight quite rapidly. My doctor has advised me to watch my food intake, but so far, I have not been able to. Can you advise me on the foods that I can eat to control my weight? Rosni, Ipoh

FARAH DIBA: The first thing is, if you are already overweight, you must not try dieting. Instead, make sure the foods you eat are rich in nutrients, rather than just being high in calories. Steer clear from heavily processed foods, foods high in added sugar or fats, such as soft drinks and potato chips. Consume more healthier snacks such as sandwiches, fresh fruits and biscuits. Consult a dietitian to help you plan a balance meal. -NST
